WOMEN AND MONEY

CONTENTS

SUMMER 2010

Express fashion
This summer we will continue to take bold steps in design innovation to satisfy consumer demand for the new - from bold graphic statements, to subtle nuances of tone and from detailed textural fabric formations to a simple, reworked proportion on an old favourite.

WINTER 10/11

Menswear designers
A review of the latest menswear shows in Milan where, as expected, designers worked to find a dramatic but still commercial way to break away from the sure and safe.

SUMMER 2011

Womenswear overview
This season we see the return to a softer woman spearheaded by a new feeling for sorbet and pastel hues, lace and transparency, liquid fabrics and simple shapes. Not for nothing, the new Grace Kelly retrospect at the V&A, London in April.

Womenswear colours
Colour enhances the finery of our silhouettes, conveying colourful harmony in our city clothes. This season, that is more so than ever, since it is built around washed-out and shaded tones, offering an entire universe of nuance.

Womenswear key shapes
There is a softness emerging which truly flatters without the need to distort. With this simplicity comes a renewed elegance, which could prove to offer a real turning point.

Womenswear fabrics
This is a season where there is less a revolution in fabrics as in finishes and colour application. The message is essentially feminine in terms of transparency, drape, liquidity and print all helped along by an equally feminine palette.

Accessories and trims
Plenty of scope for trims in a multi-faceted season, where directions range from the softest of boudoir laces and frills to the no-nonsense, nuts and bolts world of the functional.

Casualwear
Never before has a season felt so optimistic, so outdoorsy, sporty and downright healthy. We are yearning to get outdoors, enjoy the fresh air and feel invigorated and active again.

Menswear colours
Palettes such as the desert shades, outdoor greens and watery blues being worked as family groups, evolving as solids and as broken, ombré, uneven, airbrushed effects

Menswear styling
Music driven! This season, we are firmly in the here and now, cross referencing and seeing much mashing-up continuing. It seems we look with our ears as well as our eyes these days.

Menswear fabrics
It not so much the fabrics that count as the finishes. Washing, blasting, gritting – all these techniques change not only the colours, but also the whole look of otherwise pretty known fabrics.

Menswear shirtings
Shirting collections are fast becoming homogeneous packages of design and colour propositions in which various articles of differing structures and weights are evolved.

Exhibition preview
Previews from the big fabric and accessory shows including Moda In, Première Vision and Modamont, where the general message is that it's proving to be a dreamy and somewhat otherworldly season.

WINTER 11/12

Womenswear forecast
Our jeans will be coated; we'll make our leathers metallic and will not hesitate to use shiny velvet, to coat our knits with plastic and to ensure that floral-inspired patterns sparkle.

Menswear forecast
Each age bracket is defined by precise choices of colour and fabric. Prints emphasize cuts and highlight accessories. From now on, codes are reconsidered and corrected.

Print forecast
Still life represents a moment in time, echoes of the past…we digest this knowledge and use the ideas to form concepts for the future.

LIFESTYLE

View from America
Tattooed punks wear bloomers and top hats, Victorian dandies sport more piercings than watch fobs, men look like ladies and women dress like men - they are the vaudevillians, and they could be coming to a town near you.

Lifestyle
Paradigmatic change is happening: the path of economic development has become as predictable as roulette, the world's oil reserves are evaporating before our very eyes, whilst the hope once imbued by alternative fuels has also dissipated.

Art of living
Mirror Man is pure surface, his carapace reflecting fragments of the world around, broken reality bits that compose an exterior skin, which depends on its surroundings for its texture.
